Hello, my name is Kristin, and I have always loved everything about books—taking in the smell and feel of an unread book, looking at stunning illustrations that bring a children’s picture book to life, getting lost in a story, and cuddling up with a book by a warm fire. I am overjoyed when I find a wonderful story that I can share with my family and others.
I live in coastal Southern California with my husband and four children, who are 20, 18, 16, and 12. We have been reading to our children since birth—they revere authors as celebrities, and you will find books in every room in our home. My kids have always loved reading, but as they grow older, I have been challenged to find new ways to keep their interest alive. Luckily, the middle grade and young adult genres are brimming with so many good titles. Our days are often filled with commitments, activities, homework, and household chores, but I encourage us all to take some time to read. Some of my favorite moments are when we are gathered together in the family room enjoying our own books.
A major factor in kids who love reading is seeing the adults in their lives read. While I can also get busy, I practice and model reading every day. Some days, it is effortless. Reading, for me, is a welcome escape to another story in another place. But, as much as I love books, I do get stuck in a reading rut, and I have to force myself to make time to read, just like exercise or self-care. Some things that help me are being a part of my cherished women’s book club that has been going strong for 17 years. I also listen to books on Audible when I am doing housework or going for a solo walk. In the mornings, I try not to open my computer or my phone until I have read for twenty minutes. Finally, another way I encourage myself to read is through our 12-year-old and her book club that I run with a few of her friends who share a love of reading.
My wish is that this website and my social media accounts help you discover books for your children and yourself, reading tips and tricks for your readers, and that you find joy and solace in my family’s and yours’ shared love of reading.
Thank you for visiting, and I hope you come again soon.
Happy Reading!
Kristin
